Things to do

There are plenty of things to do in Mijas, not just relaxing on the beach or having a pint in one of the several bars. Mijas has a large range of sport activities, shopping areas and many, many more.

Of course, going to the beach is the number 1 of the things to do in Mijas. Mijas has various beaches, the largest ones are in La Cala and Calahonda. But also Riviera, El Faro and other smaller urbanisations have their own beach. As these are often smaller in size and less crowded, you have the impression to be on your private beach. On the beach you can find the centrums to practice different water sports such as water ski, paragliding, jetski and more.

What are the things to do in Mijas Pueblo, the village. a ride with the donkey taxi or visiting one of the many monuments is one of your options.Every Wednesday noon you can admire in the center of the village a free flamenco show on the central square. From September to May the city of Mijas offers guided walks in the rural area around Mijas Pueblo.

Nearly every month festivals or Feria's take place in this area: Feria of Mijas Pueblo, Feria in La Cala, Noche San Juan, Semana Santa (Holy week). Mijas town hall organises every year an International day in May, during this day you will see many of the nationalities dressed up in their traditional clothing. During the months July and August the 'boulevard' near the beach in La Cala turns into a true animated festival area with music and dance for all.

You have a passion for horses? Mijas has several riding schools and equestrian centers that also perform shows , to name only a few: Ecuestre El Castillo, Rancho la Paz, Club Hipico El Dorado. At the Hipodromo you can go to see the horse races but this new complex organizes also other events related to horses or horse owners.

Costa del Sol often also called Costa del Golf , has more then 30 golf courses. Mijas is famous because of their 'championships courses' ; Mijas Golf, Mijas Los Lagos, El chaparral golf, are well known internationally.
Most of the hotels and luxurious residential area's have their own tennis courts. If your housing does not you can go to the Aztek country Club for tennis lessons. You can practice football and volleyball in the same club. Several gym's, such as Eric's Gym, Alhamar Fitness center, zare located in Mijas and offer classes of aerobics, Zumba and Pilates.

You prefer to take it a bit easy? The Mayan Monkey Chocolate factory is smallest chocolate factory of teh world and is here in Mijas! Besides a visit you can also take part in the production process in one of the organised workshops. An excursion to Ronda or Gibraltar are excellent day trips.

For kids is a trip to Tivoli park, near Torremolinos or the aquapark in Mijas always a good choice. The Biopark/zoo in Fuengirola, will please both the little ones and the adults. . A visit to the dolfinarium in Benalmadena is educational and exciting. You can even take part in the feeding session or training of these dolfins. Voor de adults a visit to the Casino of Marbella or Torrequebrada can increase, or decrease too, your vacantion budget.
