Depending on the type of shop you want to go to, the shopping hours in Mijas can vary. The shops that are located near the beach or seafront are mostly open from 9 am to 9 pm. Here you can find newspapers, books, toys or accessories for the beach and sea, souvenirs and even cooled drinks.

In the center of the village and La Cala souvenirs shops will be open all day, but handcraft shops might close, like in most Spanish cities during midday. They close between 2 pm and 5 pm but stay open rather late, until 9 pm. Of course due to tourism, the locals have adapted their commercial timetables in Mijas and will be stay open to serve the tourists in the region or even stay open on Sundays during the summer months.

The shops that are nearly open every day, even on Sundays, from 9 am to 9 pm are what they call here the 'chinese shops'. These shops, often run by asiatic people, have plenty to offer and are located in the commercial area's of Mijas Costa. They sell souvenirs, small electrical appliances, clothing, kitchen utensils and many more at reasonable prices.

Restaurants, bars and cafeterias have of course different opening hours. Most bars and cafeterias open rather early and even serve breakfast. Depending on your location, you might find one that opens already at 8 am. The restaurants open for lunch and dinner. Although you can eat here at any time of the day (and night). When the restaurants are closed, mostly between 4 pm and 7 pm, you still have the snack bars, tapas bars that serve tapas or 'raciones' (portions). The kitchen stays mostly open until 10.30 pm.
