You can see and visit great monuments in Mijas at the Costa del Sol. The village has a rich history. The churches and chapels are the main monuments in this white village

When visiting the village, these are the monuments in Mijas that you are really worthwhile. To start you have the Ermita Virgin de la Peña, a chapel in a rock where you can see the patron of the village. Inside you can also see some of the nice costumes they put on the Virgin when festivities take place in Mijas.

Mijas has several small churches, the Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción. It was originally build by the Muzelman aroung the 9th century. In the 16th century is was rebuild as a church by the catholic. During the renovation works in 1992, fresco's where discovered in the pillars that probably date back to 1632.

The church 'Iglesia San Sebastian' was rebuild in 1674. Inside you see the plain white walls in contrast with the beautiful altar and cupola. The bell and clock have been added in 1902. This church is located in the most photographed street of Mijas.

The chapel of 'Nuestra señora de los Remedios' in Barrio Santana is located a bit further into the village. Here is seems time has stopped as this part of the village of Mijas has changed little over time. The chapel was rebuild on the foundations of a previous chapel beginning of the 18th century. It is a small narrow chapel with only one row of seats.

Just above Mijas you can see from the village the Ermita del Calvario, a chapel in the mountains. This chapel is only open once a year on the Friday before Easter. Due to his location, it is worth the climb up and enjoy the view from this chapel on the coast side and the town. The chapel was build in 1710.

On the coast of Mijas, you can find an other type of monuments, the watch towers. Torre Calaburra , build in 1515. Torre Calahorra situated in Calahonda dates back to the 16th century. The most recent watchtower was build in the early 19th century and is located in the urbanization of Torrenueva. The tower is called 'Torre Nueva Cala del Moral'.
