Going to the market in Mijas during your holiday is not only a nice day out. You will also find great deals and cheap vegetables. Markets are held in the morning until 2 pm.
You can go to a market in Mijas on nearly every day of the week. The largest one is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at La Cala. They sell fruit, vegetables, clothes, souvenirs and flowers. You can either take the bus to La Cala or by car you need to take exit La Cala on the A7. The market is visible from the motorway.
Thursdays you have a market in Calahonda and Las Lagunas organises it on Saturdays. At Calahonda they also organise a weekly second hand market on Sunday morning. This is a small market, for a larger choice of second hand furniture, jewelery, clothes and others, you better go on Sunday morning to the 'Hipodromo'. The Hipodromo is easy accessible and offers a large parking. From Fuengirola bus 129 runs all the way up to the market.
On Tuesday morning you can go to Fuengirola and get the best deals. On the parking lot of Los Boliches, near the river, the little booths are being prepared early morning. At the entrance of the market a large terrace is put out with live music. Most booths have prices indicated on the articles. If this is not the case, you can probably negociate with the merchant although large discounts are not usual.
Take your time, look around and compare before making your choice. This market is to my opinion the best place for a shopping bargain. During the high season in the summer it is very crowded and not recommendable with small children or dogs. It is not easy to find a parking spot nearby and taking the bus is a much easier way to reach the market. Bus 220 will take you from the coast of Mijas to the main bus station in Fuengirola. From there you can walk to the market.
What to buy on the market?
You can get nearly everything: clothes, gadgets, souvenirs, shoes, handbags, music cd's, souvenirs. Be aware that if you buy a designer handbag for 10€, this is not the real thing! But is does look great. Andalusian ceramic is a great gift to take back home. Or what about an apron looking like a flamenco dress? Go to one of the markets in Mijas and come home with an original present to take back home.
The street market at La Cala is held on the large parking just next to the A7. Every Wednesday and Saturday you can go shopping on this streetmarket from 9h30 until 2 pm.A great market to find souvenirs,...
Every sunday, a car boot sale, second hand market takes place at the Hipodromo of Mijas. This market starts around 9am and runs until about 2pm. A different way of shopping! You will not find any souvenirs...
