Mijas
Mijas is situated in the western side of the Costa del Sol, in the Malaga Region, idealy located between Fuengirola and Marbella. It has a population of approximately 73000 inhabitants between the coastline and the village in the mountains.
Mijas has mainly 2 distinctive areas: the village in the mountains, called Mijas Pueblo and the coastline, referred to as the Mijas Costa.
MIJAS PUEBLO
The authentic white village in the mountains of Andalusia, with his famous art and craft shops offers spectacular views all around. The narrow streets and cosy squares have plenty of souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. A ride with the donkey taxi is a definite must!
In the village you can visit several historical monuments, such as the Sanctuario of la Virgin de la Pena.The Plaza de Toros, the bullring that is strangely an oval construction and was opened in 1900. Bullfights still take place there every Sunday.
MIJAS COSTA
The more modern coastline is spread over 12 km with several urbanisations on the seafront. La Cala, Riviera del Sol, Calypso, lagareo, El Coto, EL Faro, Osunilla, Sierrezuela and Calahonda are the most known urbanisations. All have their own shopping area, bars, restaurants and entertainment. Smaller urbanisations in Mijas are Terrazas de Calamijas, Los Prados Golf and Las cañadas. Las Lagunas and the Hippodrome area are urbanisation that are close to Fuengirola but they are not located on the coast.
Why choose this destination?
At the Costa del Sol, you can enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The climate is very mild with no extreme peaks but a great temperature all year round. A refreshing dip in the Mediterranean is welcome most weeks of the year.
Besides the great weather of the Malaga region, Mijas offers you the possibility for a relaxing holiday with all type of activities close by. Indeed, Mijas is a zone where you do not find concentrations of high apartment buildings and streets full of loud discotheques, except perhaps for the Las Lagunas area.
The coastline offers a good combination of modern apartments located in residencies that respect the environment and the character of Andalusia. Designed with gardens and pools, most of these residencies are maximum 3 stories high. Giving you a perfect balance between comfort, design and a relaxing atmosphere. On the Costa you can also find individual villa's or semi detached villa's, ideal for a family holiday or sharing a holiday home with friends.
What are the Things to do in Mijas?
The Costa del Sol is also know as the Costa del Golf. You will find 9 different courses in Mijas, giving both the professional players as the occasionally amateur the perfect practice for their skills. For more information on where to play golf, consult our pages in the sports section.
When enjoying your vacation in Spain, you will of course go to the beach. The different beaches have sunbeds, chiringuito's (beach bars) and some of them even offer water activities.
Due to its excellent location, you are only a few minutes away from several attractions and activities. Even if you do not rent a car during your holidays, public transport buses drive every day regularly to Marbella and Fuengirola.
Don't get me wrong, there is more then enough of restaurants, bars etc in this area, but as it is spread over the different urbanisations, you get a more relaxing feeling.
