JANUARY:
On the 6th of January the Three King Parade is held. 3 Kings from the east bring gifts to the kids. During the ceremony, sweets are thrown to the waiting children on the first rows. The 6th of January is a bank holiday in Spain.
FEBRUARY
This is carnaval month and this is celebrate all over the Costa del Sol, in Mijas but also in Fuengirola and Marbella.
MARCH / APRIL
During the 'Semana Santa' or holy week before Easter, a mayor event in Mijas can be seen. This is a religious entertainment attracts many tourists but also local Spanish people. The best days to admire this spectacle are on Thursday, Good Friday or Easter Saturday. on Easter day itself it is rather quiet.
MAY
During the month of May the town hall organises an 'Internationale day'. This multi-cultural event in Mijas is celebrated with traditional food from all over the world, drinks, dance and lots of music. This initiative has as objective to discover new cultures and to make integration into the Spanish live easy. Mijas counts more then 60 different nationalities among his inhabitants!
JUNE
'La Noche de San Juan', The night of San Juan is celebrated on the 24 juni, although this party is spread out over several days around this date. A spectacular fireworks spectacle is always taking place.
JULY / AUGUST
During these summer months a concentration of festivals takes place in the area. Some of these returning events in Mijas are really worthwhile:
* Latin American night, where the town gets transformed into a huge south american dance floor where you can dance until late. A hot summer night full of music and animation is waiting for you.
* Rock Night for those who love this type of music.
* The Flamenco Dance festival takes place in July. Local and national dance groups do their utmost to give you an exceptional show and to pass on the Andalusian tradition.
* The Spanish theater festival in August is held in the open air theater of Mijas.
SEPTEMBER
This anual festival honoring the local saint of Mijas, La Virgin de la Peña, is held around the 8th of September. For this occasion, a party is taken place with shows, spanish horses, flamenco, dance and often local sherry can be tasted. The town hall of Mijas is aware of the importance of tourists in this area and organises every year in September a day to honor these tourists with plenty of activities. The date varies yearly.
DECEMBER
With the chritmas decoration in the streets, a concert takes place with carols and a choir.
