Mijas is a municipality on the Costa del Sol, that has 12 kilometres of coastline but also has extensive areas of mountains where you can practice many outdoor activities such as golf and horseback riding. The municipality is divided into two main parts; Mijas Pueblo (village)and Mijas Costa (coast).
In Mijas Pueblo, the population is approximately 8000 inhabitants. Here you can walk along the charming cobbled streets and even take a ride on the legendary Donkey-taxis. Due to his height in the mountains you can enjoy spectacular views of the coast below from any corner of the village.
Mijas Costa is the Coastal area of Mijas. The most know part of Mijas Costa is La Cala (The cove) It is the also most populated, with 25,000 inhabitants. In the Mijas Costa area you'll find numerous tourist areas devided in urbanization along the beach. The urbanizations like Calahonda, Riviera del Sol, El Faro, El Chapparal are like little sub towns on their own and have all the necessary facilities close by.
The most commercial and industrial area of Mijas is the urbanisation of Las Lagunas. This area is just behind Fuengirola. It has no direct coast area but after just a few minutes drive, you will reach the beaches of Fuengirola.
